We approached the site as both a destination and a system. In the rear yard, the breakthrough was realizing the deck could extend fully to the hillside—creating room for a clean transition with a seat wall and terrace edge. We built a retaining wall to hold the slope, extended and reinforced the existing deck framing, then shaped the grade to support the focal point: a cascading water feature designed to feel like a natural, spring-fed pond.
Because the site sheds water quickly after storms, drainage had to be solved alongside beauty. We created a long, curving swale to redirect stormwater away from the home and driveway—so the landscape performs during heavy rain, not just on sunny days.
